The SDB Bank brought in the National Ancient Heritage to the National Vesak Festival
This year’s National Vesak festival held at the ancient Wattarama Temple in Kegalle with the patronage and participation of Sri Lankan President Mr. Maithripala Sirisena. In parallel to this grand national festival, an exhibition was organized to unveil the pride of Sri Lankan culture and Buddhist heritage. This exhibition consisted of many stalls related to Sri Lankan Buddhist heritage which brought a great educational value to its viewers.
One of the salient features of this exhibition was the stalls that demonstrate the ancient cultural heritage of Kegalle district and archeological findings of different places in the district that reveals several historical information over 38,000 years. These stalls are organized by the Kegalle District Erudite Society and SDB bank is proud to become the sponsors of this great event.
SDB bank joins to celebrate Ranaviru Commemoration
SDB bank is happy to associate the New Year programme organised by the Ranaviru Family Counselling and Support Services (RFCSS) in line with the Ranaviru commemoration month on the 05th May 2017. Programme was especially for differently able war heroes who are residents at “Mihindu Seth Medura”, Aththidiya, a healing home for war heroes, Ranaviru spouses and their families.
Respected guests participated for the celebration were Rear Admiral I I S Rathnakeerthi VSV USP from Association of Retired Flag Rank Officer (ARFO), Major General C J Aberathne VSV USP, Secretary of ARFO, Brigadier K A Gnaweera USP, Treasurer of ARFO and Chairman of Ex-Service Men Association, Major General (Dr) K D P Perera USP, Project Chairman, Ranaviru Family Counselling and Support Services. Mr. Sameera D. Liyanage, Head of Marketing of SDB bank has participated on behalf of SDB bank.
It was a great honour for SDB bank to unite with RFCSS to pay the nation’s tribute to War Heroes who sacrificed their lives to safeguard the freedom of the Motherland. SDB officials personally went near to war heroes bedside and thank them for what they did while asking their well-being. Filled with emotions, but their lives wasn’t spent in vain, but for a worthy cause, a cause that does not have a price.
Event started from the blessings of Lord Buddha. In this unforgettable day, 46 differently able war heroes enjoyed the New Year Celebration along with Ranaviru spouses and their families. There were varieties of Avurudu games presented while having a musical programme by the Army musical group.

SDB bank pleased to sponsor for the Gilanpasa Pooja and Kapruka Pooja to the sacred Somawathi Chaitya organised by the SANASA Movement. The two day religious event was organised for the 05th time and was on 30th April and 01st May 2017.
SANASA Kiri Ahara Pooja
Every year on the first weekend of January, SDB began the year with the annual Kiri Ahara Pooja at the sacred site of the Ruwanwelisaya Stupa.
This annual event is organised by the SDB and SANASA Movement on the 08th January 2017.

Lotus Flower Ceremony

SDB bank felicitates Scholarship Achievers in 2016
SDB bank organized a special award ceremony for Lakdaru account holders who have qualified grade five scholarship examination in 2016 and the grand felicitation was held at the Kularathne Hall, Ananda College, Colombo 10 on Thursday, the 29th December 2016.
Mr.Lakshman Abeysekera, Senior Director of SDB bank was graced this occasion as the chief guest. Respected guests participated for the occasion were Mr Nimal C. Hapuarachchi – GM/CEO SDB bank, Mr. Kumar Mayadunne – Chief Operating Officer SDB bank along with top management of SDB bank, Mr Niranga Hettiarachchi, Chairman, Sky Media Solutions (Pvt) Ltd and Representatives of IFC and Union Assurance.
“Lakdaru” account holders who have qualified the grade five scholarship in 2016 with flying colours were rewarded with medals, certificates and other valuable gifts. “Lakdaru” account holders who are within the island top 5, were eligible to receive a Rs. 50,000/= worth of Dayada Investment Certificate, while the “Lakdaru” account holders who are within the island top 25 were eligible to receive Rs.20,000/= worth of Dayada Investment Certificate.
Further to the above, awards were presented to the winners of the SDB official Facebook page art competition which was held in line with the World’s Children’s Day.
Over 300 grade 5 scholarship winners have taken part in the ceremony along with their parents. The day was an opportunity to acknowledge and praise students’ achievements, and to thank parents and teachers who have helped them this year.
It was a memorable day for the grade five scholarship achievers and at the same time a day which they can be proud of their success.
Team SDB bank joined the final leg of Trail 2016
Team of SDB bank has stepped in to the trek from their Matara SDB bank branch, after officially handed over the donation to Mahela Jayawardene with the pass book of collection.
Trail as One 2016, organized to raise funds to build a new cancer unit for the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, has successfully concluded with the participation of hundreds of walkers. The walk, from Point Pedro to Dondra Head, began in Jaffna on October 6 and completed on November 2.
SDB bank gratified to be a part of ‘Walk to unite and heal’. Also, SDB bank is delighted to joined hands with Trail 2016, where a theme of peace, togetherness, linking of the North and South for a worthy cause are represented.
Successfully accomplished final step of SDB Lakdaru Bhodi Pooja
Bodhi Pooja along with offering lamps for Lord Buddha was organized on the 19th August 2016 at the Raja Maha Vihara, Kotte as a blessing for children who will sit for the grade 5 Scholarship exam on this Sunday.
SDB bank was successfully concluded the series of refresher seminars which were to prepare students throughout the island for the 2016 Year 5 Scholarship Examination. The Bodhi Pooja which has held invoked blessings on the students facing the examination this year.
As part of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme sponsored by the SDB bank, thirty-six student seminars were held at locations throughout the country in association with Sitha FM and Shakthi FM.
SDB to continue relief efforts
SDB joined hands to help people who have been affected by floods in Kotikawaththa and its suburbs. After conducting few of the flood relief campaigns in Western and Sabaragamuwa regions, SDB has once again step ahead to offer supporting hands to victims from floods in Kotikawaththa on 14th June 2016.
Those who have badly affected were offered a bag of most needy stuff such as cooking pots and pans along with mosquito nets and bedsheets.

Liyanage – Head of Marketing & Co-operative Development of SDB were participated for this CSR activity along with Mr. Sujeewa Perera – Manager, CO-operative Development, Mr. Lasantha Editisooriya – Regional Manager – Western Region 1 and Branch Manager – First City.
SDB Flood Relief in Kelaniya
The manager with the staff of Kiribathgoda branch has organized a flood relief campaign on 27th May 2016 for the victims from floods in Kelaniya and suburbs.
Western Region 2 and Southern Region have contributed tremendously to make this event a success.
Those who have badly affected were offered with dry ration, bedsheets, pillows, stationary for school and pre- school children.
SDB Flood Relief in Gampaha
SDB Gampaha branch has organized a flood relief campaign on 19th May 2016 for the victims from floods in Gampaha District.
Those who have affected were offered a bag of mineral water and dry rations with immediate necessities. Money allocated for their Vesak Dansal was donated for this activity.

SDB Wayamba Regional Office has joined with Sangaraja Pirivena, Kurunegala and has organized the Annual Pindapatha Charika Program of Sangaraja Pirivena in Kurunegala Town Area on 19th May 2016.

Regional office in Sabaragamuwa has organized a flood relief campaign on 19th May 2016 for the victims from floods and landslides in Ruwanwella, Dehiowita, Bulathkohupitiya areas in Kegalle District.
Under the guidance of Sabaragamuwa Regional Office and the co-ordination & advice of district secretariats, ‘Grama Sewaka’ officers in the region, branches of Ruwanwella, Deraniyagala, Rathnapura, Warakapola have gathered together for this CSR activity.
Those who have badly affected were offered a bag of dry rations with immediate necessities. Money allocated for their Vesak Dansal was donated for this activity.
Second Step towards SDB Flood Relief
SDB joins hands to help people who have been affected by floods and landslides. SDB continued their Flood Relief campaign on 20th May 2016 to offer support to those who have affected by floods and landslides.
SDB Head Office staff brought extra lunch packets to work and offered them to fellow Sri Lankans. On the second day of the SDB flood relief campaign, SDB collected dry rations, bottled drinking water, and clothes. Relief supplies were distributed to the flood victims sheltered in Galvan Temple, Hibutana Road.
First Step towards SDB Flood Relief
SDB joins hands to help people who have been affected by floods and landslides. SDB initiated a campaign on 19th May 2016 to offer immediate support to those who were affected by floods and landslides.
First step of SDB Flood Relief Campaign was to collect clothes, and they were immediately handed over to the Sri Lanka Air Force, Head Quarters, Colombo in order to distribute straightaway to those who have been badly affected.
Annual Blood Donation
SANASA Development Bank (SDB) is a 100% local Bank under the supervision of Central Bank of Sri Lanka committed to strengthen the rural economy and uplift the cooperative sector of the country. The head office staff of SDB organized a blood donation campaign on 14th January 2016, for the patients at National Cancer Institution recently, at SDB Head Office located at No 12, Edmonton Road, Kirulapone, Colombo 06.
Samadanie Kiriwandeniya, Chairperson of the Bank, Nimal C. Hapuarachchi, General Manager/CEO, management and staff members participated for this commendable feat. The participation of customers, officers of other private and government institutions and area residents were present at the event. This blood donation campaign was organized for the third consecutive time and the employees of the Bank are determined to organize this event annually.

Sri Lanka Press Association Celebrates 60th Anniversary
The 60th anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lanka Press Association held at the BMICH. President Maithripala Sirisena, who was the chief guest for the event. Minister of Mass Media Gayantha Karunathilaka officials and journalists were among those present for the event. Awards were presented to 10 veteran journalists to mark the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lanka Press Association. SDB sponsorship was awarded to Ms. Sriya Rathnakara, who is the first female in Sri Lankan Journalism and the first female editor of the first Sri Lankan women’s magazine named “Sri Magazine”. She is one of the leading and noteworthy female journalists in Sri Lankan journalism history. Today, most of the senior journalists are her students.
SDB Celebrates World’s Children Day – 2015
SDB Embilipitiya branch together with the Jenilro Institute, Embilipitiya have successfully organized a carnival at Mahaweli Circle, Embilipitiya to celebrate World’s Childrens Day on 01st October 2015. Many fun activities were prearranged and valuable gifts were offered to all the participants.
