SANASA Development Bank to raise funds to modernize Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi Outer Parapet Wall |

First time in Sri Lanka’s bank history, SANASA Development Bank – a Sri Lanka’s most popular rural bank which has over 800,000 membership plans to modernize the ancient stone parapet wall of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya, Anuradhapura, which was erected during King Devanampiyatissa (247-207 B.C.)
Chairman of the SANASA Development Bank Dr. P. A. Kiriwandeniya says the bank plans to raise funds through the public and hope to complete the entire modernization project within six months.
Addressing a media briefing in Colombo, Dr. P. A. Kiriwandeniya said the total cost would be Rs. 25 million and the bank wish to collect this amount before the end of this year. Public could purchase these tickets through the SANASA Development Banks and SANASA Societies and help our national effort, Dr. Kiriwandeniya said.
Department of Archeology has given its approval to the modernization project and a number of state agencies would assist to renovate the parapet wall. This project was commenced in February this year by the SANASA Movement jointly with Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi Development Fund. Each ticket is priced at Rs.100/- and the fund will managed by the SANASA Development Bank. The tickets have been signed by the Leader of SANASA Movement / Chairman of SANASA Development Bank Dr. P. A. Kiriwandeniya and Mr. K. H. J. Wijeyadasa the Chairman of the Sri Maha Bodhi Fund. The first ticket was sold to His Excellency the President and the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.
